When it comes to selecting an agency of any kind – be it marketing, design, advertising or otherwise, technical skills are important. As a client you need to be convinced that they have the skills to do the job you require and examples of their previous work for clients similar to yourself will certainly help you develop that confidence. A clear written brief with evaluation criteria will help you assess different agencies’ proposals and recommendations.
However technical capability is not everything. Humans buy from humans and emotion becomes a part of the decision. We can’t be completely left brained! We’ve had some lovely comments from clients recently that have said things like ‘you just get me’, and ‘we’re definitely on the same wavelength’ which are always lovely to hear. It demonstrates that we have been able to understand the client and their brief and empathise with their objectives. This is no doubt a big part of why these clients have gone on to award us work. In order to have a successful relationship with your agency that is going to deliver real results you need to be able to work with them, engage with them, be honest with them and even enjoy it. You need to be able to trust them and feel that they are on your side in everything they do.
